The Vanguard

Profile: A skilled and experienced pilot of a wide variety of atmospheric and spacegoing vehicles, Mekri is a contemporary and longtime friend of Thenurion, having went through the Valouran training academies with him. He is Sapphira’s cousin and introduced her to Thenurion long ago. He shares their commitment to the defense of life and liberty in the Galactic Union, even though he often disguises it beneath an easygoing and fun-loving demeanor.

Powers and Abilities: Mekri has most of the standard superhuman abilities of the Valourans, including immunity to disease and poisons, high degree of resistance to injury, fast healing and full tissue regeneration, psionic abilities including low levels of telepathy and telekinesis, and some ability to manipulate energy to generate force bolts and shields, as well as some basic skill at manipulating the molecular structure of matter to change an object shape and texture.

However, Mekri has chosen to develop those abilities that help him to move and react at super-speed. As a result, he is the fastest member of the Vanguard, and possibly the fastest Valouran, being able to fly at close to the speed of light in space and at Mach 10 or above in atmosphere. Not even Thenurion can match those speeds. His lightning-fast reflexes help make him a superb pilot, able to react to changing flight conditions just as quickly or even more so than a controlling AI.

Mekri usually restricts his flight speeds due to possible adverse effects-i.e. he only flies at near-light speed in space for brief periods due to relativistic effects, and only goes at Mach 10 plus in atmosphere away from populated areas due to adverse atmospheric effects. He also prefers to run on the planetary surface rather than fly through an atmosphere; as he says, “I like feeling my feet on the ground.”
